Former Five Pound Apparel owner lands new job

The former owner of Five Pound Apparel LLC cemented the next step in his career.

Bryan Simpson joined Springfield marketing firm Hook Creative LLC as director of business development, according to a news release issued this week.

“I was introduced to Hook in 2010 when we were in the process of opening Five Pound Apparel. Josh Stewart, the founder of Hook, and his father Dan were instrumental in the branding and identity of the store, which I believe was a critical part of our success,” Simpson said in the release. “Our relationship continued when Hook produced the ‘Missouri is Awesome’ video, which has been viewed over 500,000 times.”

The “Missouri is Awesome” campaign raised over $33,000 on Kickstarter for Five Pound to produce a line of Show-Me State-centric merchandise. The video Hook Creative produced featured Springfield comedian Jeff Houghton.

Five Pound sold in January to Brina and Ben Thomas for undisclosed terms, leaving Simpson in pursuit of his next entrepreneurial endeavor. Simpson since has helped Drury University as entrepreneur in residence.

At Hook Creative, Simpson is responsible for qualifying leads, developing internal business processes and planning strategic growth, according to the release.

The company founded in 2008 has a client list that includes Hotel Vandivort, Andy’s Frozen Custard and Hurts Donut Co.
