Former Cabela’s employees launch new outdoor gear business

Former Cabela's managers and employees started a new outdoor gear business based in their former employer's hometown of Sidney, Nebraska.

Through its website, Highby Outdoors sells hunting, shooting, fishing and camping products, among other outdoor items.

Company President Matt Highby's father, Dennis Highby, served as Cabela's president 2003-09 and was on its board until the company was purchased in 2017 by Bass Pro Shops.

Bass Pro previously filed suit against Highby Outdoors, seeking to stop it from opening on the grounds its owners allegedly misappropriated company information and violated noncompete agreements after they were let go from Cabela's last spring.

A preliminiary injunction Bass Pro wanted was denied, and it's unknown if the company will further pursue the suit.
