Leading Through Adversity

At the age of 34, I was selected for a corporate level position because the company lacked a female executive, and therefore was not in compliance with EEOC requirements.

I was taught to stay quiet and keep my opinions to myself. As administrator of employee benefits, I discovered that I was paid half of what my male counterparts were paid.

At the same time I became a strong supporter of the “Glass Ceiling Initiative Act” and in 1992, was invited to present before the Presidential Task Force Committee on the injustices that I had experienced.

Unfortunately, the election caused a Presidential change and I never received the opportunity to make the presentation, but when the owner of my company learned of this, he made certain that all of the women and minorities in his company were given a raise.

Through adversity, I found strength. Through being silenced, I found my voice. By being wronged, I sought and continue to seek righteousness and justice for all.

I am very grateful to have experienced these hurtful times as they have shaped my leadership style.

My mission is to help others reach their full potential by providing support, helping to identify and remove obstacles, and acting as a cheerleader.

I take the time every day to encourage and inspire others to let them know that I notice and believe in them.
