Democrats immediately rejected President Donald Trump's compromise offer to end the government shutdown.
On Saturday, Trump offered an extension of the Temporary Protected Status program, three years of legislative relief for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and a three-year extension of the Temporary Protected Status program.
In exchange, he wants $5.7 billion build a wall on the Mexican border. Trump said he wants to add 230 miles this year.
Even before the speech, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said Trump's offer is "a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable."
She added that Trump's proposal does not "represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people's lives."
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, pledged to put the proposal up for a vote this week.

Has anybody ever asked the question why federal agencies such as the Department of Housing and Urban Development with its Section 8 Housing Assistance Program for eligible people and the Department of Agriculture with its SNAP benefits and WIC benefits for eligible people are part of this partial shutdown? What do they and the other federal Departments and Agencies outside of the Department of Homeland Security that are affected by the partial shutdown have to do with funding for border security? In the meantime those federal Departments and Agencies that were part of the last Continuing Resolution which ended on December 21, 2018 when agreement could not be reached on border security funding for one federal Department are basically closed. If the partial shutdown continues into February 2019, some federal programs that provide assistance to people in need of services will run out of money.
Then what happens?
