The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau unveiled the winners of four of the five awards it will give out Feb. 15 during its annual Salute to Travel & Tourism banquet.
The Pinnacle Award, the top honor given to an individual who’s been active in the Springfield travel industry for several years and has made significant contributions to it, will be announced the night of the banquet at University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center, according to a news release.
Springfield Hot Glass Inc., operated downtown by father and son Terry and Gabriel Bloodworth, will receive the Hospitality Award. The honor recognizes attractions, lodging facilities or restaurants that help show off the city to travelers. The company blows and molds glass for decorations and awards, such as those often given out at Springfield Business Journal events.
The CVB chose Terry Whaley as the Diplomat Award recipient. Recently retired after serving Ozarks Greenways for more than 20 years as executive director, Whaley is being honored for providing significant support to the local travel industry, according to the release.
The Spotlight Award is going to Aaron Owen, executive director of the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. The award recognizes an individual, business or organization who’s not typically associated with the tourism industry but has provided noteworthy contributions to help it grow.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association was picked for the Ambassador Award, which honors individuals or organizations for helping boost tourism through a major convention or event, according to the release.
Last year, former Greene County Commissioner and state Sen. Roseann Bentley received the Pinnacle Award.
