Crews break ground on $17M south-side hotel

A Tulsa, Oklahoma, hotel developer and local officials broke ground last week on a $17.2 million Homewood Suites by Hilton in south Springfield.

Vipul Patel’s Reliance Hotels LLC, which owns roughly 2 acres at National Avenue and Lark Street, is developing the hotel, said Jay Patel, owner of Lafayette, Louisiana-based Anjani Management LLC, which will manage the property.

Designed by Springfield-based BRP Architects, the 96,000-square-foot hotel is planned with 122 rooms on five stories and a 3,500-square-foot meeting space. Tulsa-based Shani Deva Construction LLC is the general contractor, with construction consulting by Branson-based Cornerstone Building Services, Patel said.

The 4440 S. National Ave. hotel — across the street from Kelly Greens Apartments — is scheduled for completion in November 2020, he said, noting Central Bank of the Ozarks is financing the project.

Reliance Hotels purchased the property in November 2018 from State Bank of Southwest Missouri, according to Greene County recorder filings. A deed of trust related to the sale shows a note amount of roughly $954,000.

State Bank of Southwest Missouri — which still owns a 1.4-acre parcel immediately north of the hotel site, according to Greene County assessor records — previously asked City Council to rezone the southern tract to make way for a hotel, Springfield Business Journal previously reported. Council later approved the measure.

Homewood Suites, according to its website, has 450 locations, and the closest property to Springfield is in Joplin.
