CoxHealth signs late-coming ACA agreement

Posted online

After starting the year without an Affordable Care Act health insurance option, CoxHealth penned a deal with Ambetter Health, officials announced this morning.

Through the health insurance marketplace owned by Centene Corp. (NYSE: CNC), CoxHealth patients in Greene, Christian, Barry and Lawrence counties will have access to coverage through the ACA. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in a news release.

However, since the Dec. 15, 2017, enrollment deadline has passed, patients must either have already enrolled or opt to switch their current Ambetter plans to CoxHealth.

St. Louis-based Ambetter already offers coverage locally via Mercy Hospital Springfield.

In Springfield Business Journal’s January article, “Health on the Horizon: State’s ACA enrollment increases, concerns over GOP tax bill loom,” the manager of Cover Missouri’s Springfield-based southwest hub said 150 of its 375 enrolled individuals had switched to Mercy/Ambetter from CoxHealth.

CoxHealth late last month announced a new deal with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to extend insurance coverage to southwest Missouri patients. However, it did not impact ACA coverage in Greene County, since Anthem last year announced it was scaling back the service in Missouri.
