Cox unveils Meyer Orthopedic Center

CoxHealth has finished the 18-month process of building its new orthopedic center, and completion was celebrated with the public.

The 65,000-square-foot, $47.8 million Meyer Orthopedic Center was presented during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday. The facility is a single location where orthopedic patients can visit doctors, undergo surgery, receive rehabilitation and physical therapy services and access a medical fitness center, according to a Cox news release.

The hospital felt the need to build a stand-alone orthopedic center to meet the demand from a continually aging population, according to the release. St. John's Health System offered similar reasoning for its recent decision to begin the process of building its own orthopedic center.

"More and more studies show that when you focus on one type of service, the result is enhanced patient and physician satisfaction, increased efficiency and overall better services," said Ron Prenger, administrator at Cox Walnut Lawn, where the Meyer Orthopedic Center is located, in the release.

The Meyer center – which is funded by a $1.5 million donation from Ken and Jane Meyer as well as a fall 2008 bond issue – includes six new operating rooms, 35 private patient rooms, hotel-style room service for patients and a personalized daily newsletter for patients detailing their treatment, the release said.[[In-content Ad]]
