Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for May from the state government was $2.01 million, a 15.6 percent decrease compared to collections of $2.38 million in the same month of the prior fiscal year.
The latest check from the Missouri Department of Revenue pushes the city's year-to-date collections to $35.07 million, which is 6.9 percent above collections of $32.8 million by the same time in fiscal 2011, according to data provided by the city this morning.
The May sales tax check is the second-lowest received during fiscal 2012, with the smallest, $1.89 million, received in August. The largest check, $3.95 million, arrived in December. The city's fiscal year ends June 30.
