City park system hiring 430 seasonal workers

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is seeking 430 seasonal workers for 40 job types.

The positions include entry-level cashiers, skilled drivers, maintenance workers, lifeguards, camp counselors, and scorekeepers and umpires; hours vary from a a week to full time. Seasonal employees typically work April-September, according to a news release.

“The Park Board offers great opportunities for a first job, as well as great hands-on experience for anyone interested in a career in sports and recreation,” said Anne-Mary McGrath, superintendent of recreation, in the release. “Many of our full-time staff started out as summer seasonal employees.”

In partnership with the Missouri Job Center, officials are hosting a 2-6 p.m. hiring event March 22 at Mediacom Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway St.

The city’s park system includes 102 sites and over 100 miles of recreational trails. Parks facilities host some 50 sporting tournaments annually, generating $13-$15 million for the local economy, according to ParkBoard.org.

In other hiring news, SRC Holdings Corp. division SRC Heavy Duty is seeking new employees after signing a “new major contract with a large over-the-diesel engine” original equipment manufacturer, according to a news release.

In partnership with the job center and the Ozark Region Workforce Development Board, a hiring event is scheduled 10 a.m.-6 p.m. tomorrow at SRC Heavy Duty’s 650 N. Broadview Place campus.

The company needs 40 production and support employees by May 1 to fulfill the contract with the unnamed client, according to the release. An SRC Heavy duty official could not be immediately reached for comment by deadline this morning.
