The city of Springfield ended fiscal 2018 with tax revenue that both beat the prior year and officials’ estimates.
With its June sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue, the city’s fiscal year-to-date revenue came to $45.4 million. The city’s fiscal year ends June 30, according to a news release.
The June monthly sales tax check came to $3.96 million, which was 6 percent less than city officials projected for the month. The June check represents sales processed by the state in May from transactions made mostly in April.
“While monthly collections were below budget for the month, sales tax collections for the year have exceeded budget by 1 percent and exceeded last year’s collections by almost $2 million,” Springfield Finance Director David Holtmann said in the release.
Springfield uses the sales tax checks from the Department of Revenue on services such as the Police and Fire departments. Roughly 56 percent of the city’s general fund comes from sales and use taxes.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
