Charity organizations to distribute mass funds

Posted online
The Springfield Rotary Clubs and the Rotaract Club of Springfield, which presented the Rock 'n Ribs Bar-B-Que Festival on April 16 and 17, will tomorrow begin distributing the funds raised to local charities.

About $160,000 was garnered from this year's event, bringing the festival's distribution total to $865,000 during its 11 years, according to a news release.

This year marked the largest earnings yet for the festival, which earned $135,000 in 2009, said Steve Scott, event organizer.

The Rock 'n Ribs executive committee will present checks to five Ozarks charities throughout the week at one of the five Rotary Clubs.

The committee will give a check to Boys & Girls Town and Ozark Trails Boy Scouts tomorrow, to Big Brothers Big Sisters  of the Ozarks and Good Samaritan Boys Ranch on Wednesday, and to Ronald McDonald Tooth Truck on Thursday, according to the release.

Each charity will receive $27,000, Scott said.

Additionally, there are two grant recipients who may get some funding, depending on availability, he said. The names of the recipients are not released to the public.

The Rock 'n Ribs Bar-B-Que Festival is an annual Springfield charity event sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. It takes place at Bass Pro Shops at Sunshine and Campbell.[[In-content Ad]]
