Springfield architecture firm Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective expanded its interior design practice through an acquisition last week.
The purchase of Juli Russell Interior Design Group LLC closed Sept. 16 for undisclosed terms, said Brian Kubik, president of Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective.
"We made the acquisition because Juli and her team are at the top of their game coming out of the COVID pandemic," Kubik said. "They are primarily focused in the hospitality industry, which is a market that we want to increase – no better way to do it than teaming up with the best team around."
With the purchase, Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective added Juli Russell as a principal interior designer and Kayla Baldwin, Gracie Gann, Sarah Hendrix and Alexa Mercer as interior designers, according to a news release.
Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective now has 11 interior designers, Kubik said.
Kubik added the firm has leased additional space at the National Place building and moved staff around to accommodate the new employees.
Buxton Kubik Dodd was formed in 2003 through a partnership of Kubik and interior designer Joyce Buxton; Jonathan Dodd came on as a partner in 2005, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. Buxton Kubik Dodd in 2017 purchased Springfield interior design firm K Evans Interiors LLC ahead of its move to National Place on the Medical Mile.
Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective ranked No. 4 this year on SBJ's list of the area's largest architecture firms, with 15 architects and architects in training. The company also provides services such as mechanical, electric and plumbing engineering.
