Burrell pens deal to buy local mental health care provider

Posted online

Burrell Behavioral Health penned a letter of intent to purchase fellow Springfield-based mental health provider Midwest Assessment & Psychotherapy Solutions PC.

The organizations expect to finalize the agreement in mid-December. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in a news release.

From its main office at 3646 S. Campbell Ave., MAPS operates a child and development center at 230 N. Belcrest Ave., as well as centers in Monett, Nixa, Branson, Milan and Troy. It has more than 35 providers, including psychologists, social workers and counselors.

"Improving Burrell's ability to quickly and effectively service our community is our No. 1 priority," said C.J. Davis, Burrell’s new president and CEO, in the release. "The mental health industry is facing tremendous challenges treating the volume of people seeking quality services.

“MAPS aligns with our strategy to improve access and recruit talented providers.”

Burrell, a $75 million nonprofit, conducts mental health services in areas including anxiety, depression, substance abuse and developmental disabilities. Burrell expects to serve more than 30,000 adults this year through its primary services. The organization brought on Davis in October to succeed Todd Schaible, the organization’s founding leader, who died in December 2016.
