The Branson Board of Aldermen last night voted unanimously to approve Dr. Brian Clonts as its newest member.
Clonts, who works as medical director for the hospitalist department at CoxHealth in Branson, succeeds Alderwoman Betsy Seay, said city spokeswoman Melody Pettit. Citing a move out of her district, Seay resigned Sept. 1.
Pettit said the city received four applications for the position, and Mayor Karen Best interviewed three of the four candidates on Oct. 8.
Clonts was tapped to fill the board’s Ward 3 seat through the next official election in April 2019. He’s scheduled to be sworn in during the board’s Oct. 23 meeting, Pettit said. Ward 3 covers the southern portion of the city.
"I would like to work with the other aldermen to bring continued positive change for Branson. I want to see Branson continue to grow and become a more prosperous community,” Clonts said in a news release.
Pettit said Clonts also is retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years of active duty and reserve experience.
The Branson Board of Aldermen comprises six members and the mayor, according the city’s website.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
