Branson board approves $350K land purchase for fire station

Posted online

The Branson Board of Aldermen last night voted to approve a $350,000 land purchase contract for a new fire station.

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Inc. is the seller for the 9 acres along Champagne Boulevard in southwest Branson. For the land purchase, the city plans to use half-cent public safety sales tax funds approved by Branson voters in 2017, according to a news release.

“The safety of our residents and visitors is our No. 1 priority. This land purchase is part of how we are fulfilling our promise to the community when they passed the public safety sales tax,” Branson Fire Chief Ted Martin said in the release. “It’s important for our citizens to see how we are spending the money and the life-saving benefits.”

The new fire station is expected to reduce wait times in southwest Branson. City of Branson spokeswoman Melody Pettit said via email the station would have three bays.

Last night’s vote follows a similar approval in August by the board, when the city entered a contract to buy 5.5 acres from Tanstone LLC for a new Branson Police Department building. The purchase price for the acreage at Roark Valley Road and Forsythe Street was listed at $950,000 in a separate release.

City officials say they soon will take requests for proposal from architects and engineering firms to design and build the fire and police stations. Officials are seeking to break ground on the structures in 2019. The goal is to have the stations operational by late 2020 or early 2021, Pettit said.

The city currently has three fire stations and one police station, she said.
