Big Whiskey’s planned at former Ruby Tuesday in Nixa

Posted online

Big Whiskey’s is planning a new restaurant at a former Ruby Tuesday in Nixa.

The property is one of two former restaurant buildings purchased by Big Whiskey’s after Ruby Tuesday Inc. (NYSE: RT) in 2016 closed 95 underperforming stores. The other was in Republic, where Big Whiskey’s opened its eighth restaurant in August 2017, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Big Whiskey’s Director of Marketing Laura Head Elliott this morning confirmed the plans in Nixa.

Angela Blevins, the project manager with BP Builders LLC for the renovation of the former Ruby Tuesday, said the opening of the new Big Whiskey’s is expected late this year. The Big Whiskey’s operators may add a roughly 850-square-foot outdoor patio to the restaurant, which spans more than 3,300 square feet, Blevins said.

Blevins was unsure about the project cost, and an official with the city of Nixa’s Planning & Development Department said no other details are listed on a building permit for the planned Big Whiskey’s.

Matt Bailey, chief operating officer of BP Builders, said an interior and exterior renovation is being conducted, similar to when Big Whiskey’s remodeled the Ruby Tuesday in Republic.

Big Whiskey’s had put the Nixa building up for sale, with the possibility of opening its own restaurant there if a buyer wasn’t cemented, officials with the company previously told SBJ.

Bailey said the Nixa property had been planned as a Kum & Go, but that concept fell through.

“They were considering building a store at that property but ultimately decided against it,” said Kum & Go spokeswoman Kristie Bell via email.

A Nixa City Council agenda from June 25 indicates Kum & Go had the former Ruby Tuesday under contract to purchase from Big Whiskey’s. Officials at the time were discussing proposals to change up the roadways surrounding the property to allow for better access.
