Before resigning, Papa John's founder discussed merger with Wendy's

The Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the matter in reporting on preliminary merger talks between Papa John's and Wendy's.

John Schnatter, the company's founder who recently resigned as chairman, reportedly led the talks before he stepped down over the use of a racial slur.

The discussions have cooled since Schnatter's resignation, one person familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
