Bass Pro Shops signed on to anchor an 800,000-square-foot planned mixed-use retail development in Bakersfield, California.
The 100,000-square-foot Outdoor World would be Bass Pro’s fifth store in the Golden State. A scheduled opening in The Woodmont Co.’s 93-acre Bakersfield Gateway was not provided in a news release.
“We are confident this project will be a huge success due, in part, to the incredible draw of Bass Pro,” Woodmont Co. Chairman Stephen Coslik said in the release.
Bass Pro plans to hire up to 300 people to run the store, which will be located a the newly completed interchange. According to a flyer posted by The Woodmont Co., the Bakersfield metropolitan statistical area has nearly 889,000 residents.
The Bakersfield store would join Bass Pro’s California locations in Manteca, San Jose, Rancho Cucamonga and Rocklin. Cabela’s Inc., which was purchased in September by Bass Pro for $5 billion, doesn’t have any California stores, according to its website.
Recently, Bass Pro sold four of its stores in Arkansas and Florida to Greenwich, Connecticut, real estate firm Starwood Capital Group. Bass Pro became a tenant of the stores in the transactions.
The firm bought a Bass Pro store and 15 adjacent acres in Little Rock for $21.9 million, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. That followed the purchase in September of a Brandon, Florida, store for $28.6 million. It also bought two stores in St. Lucie and Palm Bay, though Tampa Bay Online did not list sales prices for those locations.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
