The Springfield Art Museum announced this morning it will add 98 pieces of art to its collection via donations.

Joshua Best, development and marketing coordinator, declined to disclose the value of the pieces, citing security concerns. He said the new art, including a piece by Pablo Picasso, would join some 10,000 objects already in the museum’s permanent collection.

“These incredible gifts allow us to build deeper and more nuanced connections within the collection,” said Sarah Buhr, the museum’s art curator, in a news release.

Of the 98 pieces, 59 are by late local artist Rose O'Neill and are being donated by the Rose O’Neill Foundation. Thirty-one of the pieces, donated by David Snider, are original cartoons by Bob Palmer, A Pulitzer Prize nominee who, according to the release, is Springfield’s longest-working political cartoonist.

The other pieces are:
    •    a piece by Picasso called “Tete du Femme de Profil," donated by John Cooper;
    •    two by former museum director and Watercolor USA co-founder Kenneth Shuck, gifted by Jerry-Mac Johnston;
    •    two from photographer and retired Missouri State University professor Bruce West, gifted by the artist;
    •    a piece by former Watercolor USA juror Rob Erdle, donated by Maureen Sando;
    •    a piece by contemporary Brazilian artist Romero Britto, donated by Robert Bohlen and Lillian Montalto; and
    •    art from LGBTQ artist and advocate Jordan Eagles, also donated by Bohlen and Montalto.

The donation announcement comes less than a month after the art museum unveiled an up to $19 million, 30-year master for the campus.
