2017 40 Under 40 Honoree: Maranda Provance, 28

Posted online
Maranda Provance is achieving impressive results as the director of the software engineering team for Mostly Serious LLC. She helped Community Foundation of the Ozarks raise nearly $1.2 million for its nonprofit partners by engineering a software infrastructure solution that could hold up under pressure during a 24-hour pledge campaign promoted as #breaktheinternet. Her team also tackled the redesigned CoxHealth.com. Provance is serious about yoga, advocacy for women and minorities, mentoring and The Geek Foundation, which she co-created to provide tech, maker and programming courses to the general public – especially women, at-risk youth and the underemployed – on a sliding fee schedule.

What was your first job? Scooping ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery.

When did you realize you had grown up? When I recognized the beauty of going to bed at 10 p.m. and waking up at 6 a.m.

What was your professional “aha” moment? If you want something done, try doing it yourself. I saw a lack of clarity in our company’s processes years ago and took the initiative to define our workflows. That initiative earned me a position on the leadership team at age 25.

What about your job would shock clients? Twice, I have pulled a 24-hour shift to make sure Give Ozarks was stable.

What’s your greatest regret? Working so close to the Aviary Cafe but not having the guts to eat pomme frites every day.
