At least 20 companies from southwest Missouri are expected to have representatives in attendance for a multi-industry hiring event this week in Mount Vernon.
Representatives from area companies will be on hand to answer questions about job openings, company information and other job-related inquiries during the event scheduled for 3 p.m. June 14 at the Mount Vernon Arts and Recreation Center, 822 W. Mount Vernon St., according to a news release.
The participating employers, according to a list provided by the Missouri Job Center, are:
• Albany Molecular Research Inc.;
• Architectural Components Group Inc.;
• Bass Pro Shops;
• Carpenters, Local 978;
• EFCO Corp.;
• Jack Henry & Associates Inc.;
• Kelly Services Inc.;
• Killian Construction Co.;
• Mercy (Aurora/Cassville);
• Missouri Veterans Home (Mount Vernon);
• My Destiny Homecare LLC;
• Nationwide Settlement Solutions;
• Nothum Manufacturing Co.;
• Olin Staffing;
• Oxford HealthCare;
• Penmac Staffing Services Inc.;
• PlayPower Inc.;
• Poor Boy Tree Service Inc.;
• Prestressed Casting Co.; and
Springfield’s Missouri Job Center is partnering with the center in Joplin on the event, according to the release.
“This is the first time our offices have worked together to put on a regional event of this magnitude,” said Dennis Wiggins, spokesman with the job center in Springfield, in the release.
Springfield’s job center serves Greene, Christian, Taney, Stone, Webster, Dallas and Polk counties, while the Joplin Job Center serves Barton, Dade, Jasper, Lawrence, Newton, McDonald and Barry counties.
The collaborative effort between the job centers stemmed from a desire to have a centrally located event that could reach the southwest Missouri area, Wiggins said.
“We have to try to continue to think outside the box,” he said. “The same old, same old just doesn’t cover it.”
Wiggins said the employers together have more than 500 jobs available.
