2014 Most Influential Women Honoree: Jann Holland

Posted online
If you’ve ever admired Mother’s Brewing Co.’s logo, you’ve admired the work of Jann Holland.

The veteran marketer worked previously at Sugar Design Studio and was part of the team that collaborated with the nascent craft brewery. Four years ago, she moved her talent to Drury University, where she’s the executive director of marketing and communications in charge of institutional branding and marketing.

Holland has spent half her career, which stretches more than 20 years, serving in management roles where she has focused on mentoring younger colleagues.

“Every year, I work with one to two communications students on their senior capstone projects,” she says. “I also serve as a resource for students looking for advertising and marketing career advice. I have helped secure internships, written letters of reference and connected grads to friends in the industry to help them grow their network.”

High school and college students often shadow Holland, and she helps advertising and communications classes at Drury and within Springfield Catholic Schools by serving as a guest speaker, judge and focus group participant.

“I pride myself on being a connector,” she says. “I love helping individuals carve out a career in marketing and advertising, an industry about which I am very passionate.”

Holland wasted no time in getting involved at Drury beyond her day job when she volunteered to serve on the strategic planning committee, where she became a key team leader.

“This work sat on top of my daily work and consumed an average of 15 hours per week,” Holland says. “I was both thrilled and honored to serve on the committee, and I believe that exhibiting such proactive leadership and engagement only two months after starting my job positioned me as a reliable leader at the university.”

This year, Holland was tapped to serve on Drury’s Strategic Enrollment Management team focused on recruitment, and she was one of three people chosen to attend a national SEM conference.

As a reflection of the experience she brings to her job, Holland leads a team whose recent marketing materials have received local, regional and national recognition.

Holland is especially proud of the rollout of the Drury Connect brand, a commitment of the university to be of greater value to Springfield and southwest Missouri through outreach programs.

“I am now seeing the brand take on new life outside of my department with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community not only embracing the brand message but also adding to it,” she says.

Holland seeks to lead by example outside of work as well, not only to help her community but also to inspire her two children. She has fundraised for Springfield Catholic Schools, including for its largest-ever capital campaign, and is a current board member for Isabel’s House.[[In-content Ad]]
