2014 Most Influential Women Honoree: Sharon Day

Posted online
Sharon Day has accomplished a lot in the past 23 years and her achievements are a testament to hard work and commitment.

Day is executive vice president and chief financial/administrative officer for Metropolitan National Bank, where she’s worked since 1997.

“My current position as a bank executive vice president – in an industry where that title is predominantly held by men – is my proudest professional accomplishment,” Day says, noting it’s not the title that she finds gratifying. “It’s the journey I endured to get here.”

She calls that journey a “personal blessing,” albeit one that took a lot of perseverance and late nights.

After high school, Day worked a full-time day job and attended college at night, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Missouri State University. She landed an accounting job before graduation, then passed the certified public accountant exam on her first try. She started a CPA firm in her hometown of Marshfield in 1994.

Three years later, management at Citizens State Bank recruited her for the position of controller for its recently acquired Metropolitan National Bank.

Day’s command of those responsibilities earned her several promotions and direct supervision of multiple departments. A promotion to senior vice president got her a seat at the table.

“Ms. Day’s business accomplishments are formidable,” says Kenneth Thompson, associate circuit judge of Webster County. “She has demonstrated vision, competence and success in the financial sector of the Springfield area’s business community. For the past 15 years, I have watched as Ms. Day has energized the business and civic culture of (the Marshfield) community. Her tireless civic boosterism, coupled with her exceeding talent, has combined to make this truly a better place to live.”

Day says her responsibilities keep her busy even in her sleep, but despite a hectic schedule, she is a tireless volunteer.

She’s involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, for which she has helped raise more than $650,000 and is the Marshfield Optimist Club’s vice president.

She also dedicates time to the Salvation Army, Webster County Food Pantry, Marshfield schools, Developmental Center of the Ozarks and Marshfield Ozarks Area Community Action Corp.

“Volunteering requires balance and deep breaths, but it can be done,” Day says.

Thompson says Day’s work as Marshfield United Methodist Church’s youth leader has had a positive influence on his own family.

“My daughter received so much valuable instruction and counsel from Ms. Day, but more importantly, she was presented with a role model, a lifestyle worth emulating,” he says. “Of all of (Day’s) accomplishments, I think none can surpass her becoming an example for young women to follow.”[[In-content Ad]]
