Bristol's new Bass Pro off to a rousing sales start

Overflow crowds and some of the highest sales within the 68-store chain has Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in the Exit 74 area of Interstate 81 in Bristol, Tenn., off to a rousing start, a city official told TriCities.com.

Though sales receipts weren't released, Labor Day sales in Bristol reportedly were the second-highest among all of Bass Pro's stores.

“The opening weekend, I counted license plates from 23 different states in the parking lot,” developer Steve Johnson said. “We can’t talk about the exact number of visitors, but I can tell you that it was in the tens of thousands. We’re just overwhelmed and excited about how the project has taken off.”

The store opened Aug. 20.
