Oracle Taekwondo Academy LLC
Taekwondo instructor David Therkelsen opened Oracle Taekwondo Academy LLC on July 9 at 5601 S. Campbell Ave. Therkelsen, a Waynesville native who has taught martial arts for 26 years, said the classes emphasize confidence and courtesy. Therkelsen has studied 29 years under Grand Master Yun Sung Chung, founder of the American TaeKwonDo Foundation, and ran a martial arts school in Wetumpka, Ala., for 12 years before opening in Springfield. Investing $15,000 in the startup, Oracle Taekwondo charges students $99 per month for unlimited classes and a uniform. The only current employee, Therkelsen leases the 4,200-square-foot space, formerly DiVentures, from Don Peterson for undisclosed terms. Hours: 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 771-2190. Web: Facebook.com/Oracle-Taekwondo-Academy

Starbucks at OTC
Price Cutter opened a Starbucks kiosk July 7 in the Information Commons at Ozarks Technical Community College, 1001 E. Chestnut Expressway. In the deal the school structured with Price Cutter, OTC leases the space to the grocer for $1,000 a month, and the school will collect 1.5 percent of profits once Starbucks’ sales reach $800,000 a year, said Mark Miller, OTC’s communications director. Miller said school administrators responded to student feedback and invested $60,000 to prepare the space for gas, water and electric. The kiosk, which employs 18 to serve students, faculty and visitors, sells the full Starbucks line of drinks, pastries and sandwiches. Price Cutter now operates eight Starbucks kiosks in Springfield and 16 kiosks in stores from Lebanon to Joplin, according to PriceCutterOnline.com. Hours: 6:30 a.m–9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday.

The Fork & Spoon
Caterer Patty Wingo opened lunch diner The Fork & Spoon on April 21 at 2340 W. Grand St. in the Knights of Columbus’ Diamond Room. Wingo, who has worked in food services for 15 years and operates Simply Delicious LLC, said she wanted to run a restaurant close to her commercial kitchen in the Diamond Room after closing in February her two-year-old Vintage Veranda Tea Room on South Scenic Avenue. Investing $2,500 in the startup, Wingo said she manages banquets at the Diamond Room in exchange for the 1,800-square-foot restaurant space. The Fork & Spoon employs four and serves sandwiches, burgers and barbeque under $10. Hours: 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 761-4838. Web: TheForkAndSpoon.org
