2013 Most Influential Women Honoree: Dr. Randi Green

Posted online
Two years out of dental school, Randi Green took the plunge into small-business ownership when she took over a practice that lacked the leadership to continue. She was 27 years old and the first female in her graduating class to go into business for herself.

“The practice was in a decline, but I knew the business model was based on sound principles, so I took the plunge,” says Green, also known as the Springfield Smile Doctor. Green is a 2009 graduate of the University of Mississippi’s School of Dentistry who moved to Springfield to take over the practice.

“I attribute my drive for success, natural leadership ability and personal confidence in my abilities to giving me the courage to proceed with practice ownership at such a young age,” Green says.

Since taking the reins, Green has attended more than 200 hours of continuing education on both clinical and business topics to benefit the practice, her employees and patients. She also emphasizes continuing education.

“By doing so, I have fostered my role as leader of an outstanding and highly educated dental team that goes beyond just filling teeth to look at the patient as a whole,” Green says. “I have led my team to value continued education and growth. I aim to never stop learning and feel that my commitment to furthering my education, as well as my team’s, is one of my greatest accomplishments as a leader.”

Green also aims to lead in her profession outside of her business. She is on the executive committee of the new Springfield Chapter of the American Association of Women Dentists, which launched this year.

“I have been an integral part in planning the organization of the association and laying the foundation for what we want to accomplish in the future,” Green says. “Our goal is to encourage women in dentistry and provide fellowship to a group with unique personal and professional challenges.”

As someone who benefited from the mentors in her life, Green is committed to providing young students a glimpse into the reality of dentistry to help foster future leaders and encourage them to follow their goals. She allows students to job shadow in her office, and she recently signed on as a mentor for Ozarks Technical Community College’s dental assisting program.

“Entering into four years of college, then four years of professional school and possibly even more education time in a residency is a daunting prospect for anyone. By showing students what the actual career is like after so many years of study, I feel like I am inspiring others to enter the health care field and provide a much-needed service to the community,” Green says.

She offers dental care to female residents of the domestic-violence resource, Harmony House, and is a sponsor of The Victim Center. Green also has donated services and goods to Victory Mission and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield.[[In-content Ad]]
