2012 Men of the Year Honoree: J. Howard Fisk

Posted online
Though he has been at the head of a passenger transportation service firm for more than three decades, J. Howard Fisk still finds time to answer the company’s calls personally.

That’s just part of the customer service philosophy that has sustained J. Howard Fisk Limousines through the years.

“My firm provides the transportation toolbox necessary for the success of my customers,” Fisk says. “Leadership is providing a full array of vehicles to support the economy of southwest Missouri.”

Fisk Limousines has contractual transportation agreements with entities such as Missouri State University, and the company’s fleet of limos, SUVs, buses, vans and luxury vehicles also transports clients to and from destinations such as Springfield-Branson National Airport.

The company hasn’t just made inroads locally, however.

“I have built relationships with transportation companies from New York, Los Angeles, Houston and from across the country. We provide service for national firms on a regular basis,” Fisk says, noting his company also operates a fleet in Kansas City.

In the Springfield-area community, Fisk is involved with numerous organizations, giving both time and money toward civic causes. Fisk holds volunteer board positions with Ozarks Technical Community College, the airport, CoxHealth, the Ozarks Transportation Organization and the Summit Preparatory School, to name a few.

“My broad community knowledge allows me the benefit of being among the most informed people in the room on broad issues that cross many boundaries and many issues in the region,” Fisk says. “Sometimes you need to patch a leaking roof, and sometimes you need a new roof; I feel a real sense of accomplishment when I recognize the difference and define the solution.”

Fisk and his firm also provide financial support to myriad organizations, including Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Ballet, Springfield Regional Opera, Springfield Little Theatre, KSMU public radio and the Juanita K. Hammons Center for the Performing Arts.

Ollis & Co. President and CEO Richard Ollis notes the impact of Fisk’s civic work.

“As you look around our region, his influence can be seen through many organizations, directly impacting our economic development and quality of life,” Ollis says, referring to Fisk as a mentor.
