2010 Most Influential Women Honoree: Janet Weber

Posted online
Being a leader is nothing new to Janet Weber.

During 18 years in the financial industry, she has pioneered new divisions for three banks: marketing and sales management for Empire Bank and private banking for Regions Bank and Metropolitan National Bank, where she is vice president of private banking and marketing.

Weber, who has a bachelor’s in mass communications from Southeast Missouri State University, joined Metropolitan National in 2008.

“In my current role … I designed, developed and introduced a new product line and have been the top producer for 2008 and 2009 and have already hit my stretch goal for 2010,” Weber says. “In my role as marketing director, I manage a six-figure budget and am leading initiatives to rebrand the Metropolitan franchise to our employees in the marketplace.”

Among her career highlights, Weber points to her introduction of Empire Bank’s Employee of the Month Club, and her participation on a committee that developed training and sales processes for the holding company’s 2,000-plus employees.

“I was chosen by the CEO to participate, along with four other holding company employees, in the prestigious Ritz-Carlton legendary customer service training in Detroit, Michigan,” Weber says.

At Metropolitan, Weber has developed and presented a raining curriculum for the bank’s six junior commercial lenders, aimed at helping them build their practices. Sometimes, she says, that entails accompanying those lenders on sales calls and coaching them on how to improve their approaches.

She says she also routinely influences the success of those in Metropolitan’s mortgage division by being the top referral partner for them.

“This partnership I share with my colleagues is so vital, because our mortgage professionals are compensated on commission, and working closely with them and providing referrals directly affects their livelihood,” she says.

The achievement Weber is most proud of, however, is through her work with the American Heart Association to help combat heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 3 killers, respectively, of women older than 25. She was chairwoman of AHA’s local Go Red For Women luncheon in 2009 and again this year.

“With my leadership in this organization, I have participated year to date in raising $250,000 and have motivated Metropolitan National Bank along with other local businesses to participate in the City Goes Red, which is a new initiative for our community,” she says.

Other causes Weber is proud to be involved with are the Springfield Catholic Foundation Board of Directors, Springfield Symphony’s Crescendo committee and Female Leaders in Philanthropy. She’s also proud of her leadership in developing the first marketing initiative in the Springfield Public Schools to promote the History Museum for Springfield and Greene County.

“During this effort, I solicited a local advertising agency to donate their creative design and a local printer to produce marketing materials to be displayed and hung throughout the Springfield Public Schools,” she says.[[In-content Ad]]
