Federal workers owe IRS $3.5B

Federal workers and retirees owe the IRS $3.5 billion, according to data released Tuesday.

CNNMoney reports 3.1 percent of federal employees - including civilian and military employees - are late on their taxes. They either didn't pay the full amount owed in a return or an audit found they owed more money than actually paid.

The IRS is the only federal agency that can fire an employee for not paying their taxes, according to the report.
