Amanda Tummons is reaching new heights at Husch Blackwell LLP.
As a founding member of the firmís unmanned aircraft systems practice group, Tummons is at the forefront of a legal gray area gaining clarity.
Specifically at issue is drone technology, including the legality of commercial use, and assisting clients with legal, privacy and regulatory issues of UAS and unmanned aerial vehicles.
"As part of a team that was pitching to an international client for our new UAS team, I offered my insight to other members of the team in the course of preparation for our joint presentation and acted as the primary presenter in the client meeting," Tummons says. "As a result of this presentation, the firm secured the engagement for the new work in this fast-evolving legal field."
In less gray skies, Tummons has served as lead attorney for an airline client in its acquisition of over 100 Boeing aircraft, as well as counsel for an aviation company seeking a certificate from the Department of Transportation to offer charter operations of an Airbus aircraft.
Tummons notes a turning point in her career came when a Fortune 500 company sought her advice on a substantial business matter.
“More than working on any one transaction, being the person that in-house counsel and executives routinely call – even when more seasoned attorneys are available – exhibits the client’s trust and faith in me,” she says.
Working with Tummons for over nine years, Husch Blackwell partner David Agee has witnessed the growth of someone he calls, “one of the top commercial law attorneys in southwest Missouri.”

In the Springfield community, Tummons has served as a member of a number of groups, and has held leadership positions.
A current member of the Harmony House Board of Directors, Tummons moved into the vice president role in 2015 after serving a year as treasurer for the nonprofit that provides shelter and support services for victims of domestic abuse.
A member of Junior League of Springfield since 2007, she served a stint as chairwoman of the public affairs committee. Tummons also was a 2011-13 associate board member for the Springfield Little Theatre and often uses her legal experience to represent nonprofits on a pro bono basis.[[In-content Ad]]
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
