2015 40 Under 40 Honoree: John Gore

Posted online
Leadership is nothing new to John Gore. An attorney and partner with Franke, Schultz & Mullen PC, Gore demonstrated a desire to lead when he worked as a marketing manager at manufacturer DT Industries from 1998 to 2000, years before he attained his law degree in 2005. As part of the company’s strategic plan to provide a one-stop shop for integrated automation systems, he worked on the marketing side to integrate 16 divisions DT acquired during his tenure.

Through the development of brochures, print advertisements, product videos, direct mail and trade-show displays, he learned the value of hard work and forward thinking.

“The marketing message we developed help promote opportunities for cross-selling among the various divisions of the corporation, which grew to exceed $500 million in annual revenue,” Gore says.

After earning his law degree from Creighton University School of Law, Gore worked for two years as a criminal defense attorney for Askinosie Law Office LLC before focusing on bankruptcy and family law at Reynolds, Gold, Grosser PC in Springfield. He also served for a year as prosecuting attorney for the city of Walnut Grove.

For the past four years, he’s focused his practice on civil litigation defense and insurance-coverage areas for Franke, Schultz & Mullen, where over the past year he has supervised the office for the firm’s three principal partners in Kansas City. He said being named a partner to the firm is his proudest professional accomplishment.

Supporting others in their own legal pursuits as a mentor also has been a passion for Gore since his law school days. At Creighton, he participated in the school’s mentoring program for first-year law students and worked as an instructor at its legal writing center. His help with young attorneys continues.

“Law schools generally do not teach the practical skills necessary to practice law. Learning those skills can be very overwhelming for new attorneys without the assistance of a mentor when they start practicing. As a result, I have strived to mentor less-experienced attorneys during my career,” Gore says. “Over the past year, I have acted as a mentor to two attorneys our firm hired immediately after graduation.

“I felt a great deal of pride when one of these attorneys applied some of the guidance I provided to win his first bench trial earlier in the year and received firmwide recognition.”

Beyond the office, Gore – who was selected by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2013 and 2014 as a Rising Star in the Missouri and Kansas region – has served on the Springfield Ballet’s board of directors for four years.

“The community outreach program undertaken by this nonprofit organization has provided accessibility to dance for thousands of children who might not otherwise have it by offering free dance programs at low-income schools, low-cost dance workshops and ballet school scholarships,” Gore says.[[In-content Ad]]
