New laws against expanding antidiscrimination protections are set to take effect in Arkansas later this year, and the state's largest employer isn’t happy about it.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) opposes a new law which would ban cities and counties from expanding antidiscrimination protections beyond state law to include sexual orientation and gender identity. The world’s largest retailer told The Associated Press it’s counter to their beliefs and "sends the wrong message about Arkansas."
The AP reports Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson allowed the legislation to become law without his signature after citing concerns about it infringing on local control.
