Traffic Center Ground Breaking

Traffic Center Ground Breaking P664

The city of Springfield and the Missouri Department of Transportation broke ground Jan. 12 on the Springfield/MoDOT Regional Transportation Management Center, inside the Springfield Public Works Service Center at 1111 W. Chestnut Expressway. The TMC is a partnership between the two organizations to improve local roadway efficiency and safety. The center uses city and state personnel to monitor traffic, using the cit's computerized traffic signals, monitoring cameras and other equipment. The center was originally in the Discovery Center and is currently in temporary facilities at Walnut Street and Jefferson Avenue. The $3.2 million building project is funded with more $1.5 million in federal earmarks and $1.7 million in city and state funds.
