The Missourian Award is slated to be presented to 14 recipients next month in Jefferson City.
The award recognizes native Missourians and, in some cases, longtime state residents who have made widespread contributions in civic, business, arts or political work, according to
TheMissourianAward.org.
The 2014 recipients are:
- Thomas Strong, founder of Springfield law firm Strong-Garner-Bauer PC;
- Bob Holden, former governor of Missouri;
- Brady Deaton, former chancellor of the University of Missouri;
- James Symington, an attorney and politician who represented Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives;
- Clif Smart, president of Missouri State University;
- Phyllis Washington, superintendent of the Allen Village School in Kansas City;
- James Giglio, an author and MSU professor emeritus;
- Bill Virdon, a former Major League Baseball player and coach;
- Jerry Jared, board chairman of Springfield developer Jared Enterprises Inc.;
- Dean Hartman, president of Springfield-based civil construction firm Hartman & Co. Inc.;
- Tom Voss, former president and CEO of Ameren Corp.;
- Jean Coday, director of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home & Museum in Mansfield; and
- Jerry Hall and Jack Henry, who are being posthumously honored as the co-founders of Jack Henry & Associates Inc.
The awards banquet is scheduled Sept. 27 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in St. Louis, according to a news release.
The Missourian Award was created by Ralph Slavens and his late wife, Corrine, to honor individuals who have made a lasting impact on the Show-Me State.[[In-content Ad]]
