DED awards grant funding to Taney County, Reeds Spring

The Missouri Department of Economic Development approved $600,000 in combined funding for Taney County and the city of Reeds Spring.

Through its Community Development Block Grant program, the DED will issue $100,000 to Taney County officials, according to a news release.

The funding will help pay for a 24-unit apartment building for residents with developmental disabilities.

The funds are earmarked for the acquisition of land next to the Taney County Developmental Connections office.

The apartments will be built with the aid of low-income tax credits from the Missouri Housing Development Commission, according to the release.

Water supply
Reeds Spring was approved for $500,000 in CDBG funding from the DED.

City officials will use the money to aid its water distribution system upgrade, according to the release.

The city’s current water distribution system comprises deteriorating cast iron and galvanized piping that causes water loss. It also does not meet state Department of Natural Resources standards.

With the grant funding, the city can replace its cast iron and galvanized water lines, renovate two well houses and replace existing service meters. The moves would bring the system up to DNR standards, according to the release.

The DED’s CDBG program issues grants and loans to cities with populations under 50,000 and counties under 200,000 to help with public works and economic development projects.[[In-content Ad]]
