Blunt victorious in Mo. Farm Bureau straw poll

Posted online
The Missouri Farm Bureau continued its tradition of holding election year straw polls at the Missouri State Fair, with this year's poll focusing the race for U.S. senator.

A total of 6,426 fairgoers voted in the poll, with 67 percent of the votes going toward Republican candidate Roy Blunt and 33 percent going toward Democratic candidate Robin Carnahan, according to an Aug. 24 Farm Bureau news release.

Of the votes, 3,956 went to Blunt and 1,927 went to Carnahan. The other voters - a total of 543 - were undecided or chose to write in another candidate, said Estil Fretwell, Missouri Farm Bureau director of public affairs.

The straw poll results were garnered at the Farm Bureau building at the fair, which was held Aug. 11-21 in Sedalia.

The Missouri Farm Bureau has been conducting election year straw polls since 1980, the release said.

The Blunt campaign submitted a news release concerning the poll results Aug. 24.

"Our campaign is greatly energized by the voting at the Missouri State Fair conducted by the Missouri Farm Bureau...," Blunt spokesman Rich Chrismer said in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
