Missouri receives $1.28 million on-the-job training grant

Posted online
Gov. Jay Nixon announced today the U.S. Department of Labor will give a $1.28 million grant to Missouri to help displaced workers by giving them upgraded training.

The grant will make it possible for workers to receive on-the-job training, allowing them to jointly receive wages and acquire training, according to a Department of Economic Development news release.

DED's Division of Workforce Development will administer the grant.

“This grant will help us greatly increase the number of Missouri workers and businesses that benefit from this successful program,” said Julie Gibson, director of DWD, in the release.

According to the release, the grant was provided through On-the-Job Training National Emergency Grants funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"As our economic recovery takes hold, this investment presents a win-win scenario," U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis said in the release. “After all, workers are not the only ones who benefit from the approach. On-the-job training programs also offer tremendous returns for employers who commit time and other resources to training and hiring employees.”[[In-content Ad]]
