Christian County moves to change zoning system
SBJ Staff

Christian County's first steps toward a zoning system are on display for residents to view and make comments.

A preliminary version of a planned Christian County Zoning Map is posted at Christian County offices in Ozark today through June 4. The map is the county's first step toward a traditional or "Euclidian" form of zoning, named for the town in Ohio where the idea first originated.

The map, according to a county news release, represents the county's attempt to regulate county land uses while respecting current land uses and fitting into the various zoning districts laid out in a set of proposed county zoning regulations. Those regulations await approval by the Christian County Commission.

County officials also noted in the release that changes in zoning classification would not affect the existing lawful use of a person's own land.

Members of the public are invited to review the map, ask questions and offer suggestions leading up to the Planning and Zoning Commission's meeting at 7 p.m. June 7, when the commission will vote to recommend or not recommend the map to the county commission.

Copies of the map are available at the county Web site.
