The Springfield-Greene County Library District is getting state funding to digitize documents and deliver summer reading programs throughout Greene County.
The district received $108,830 in Missouri State Library Excellence in Library Service Grants, Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced last week.
The money will be split between two library programs. One program will digitize more than 2,000 pages of Ozarks-area Civil War documents, while the other will provide the Summer Reading to Go Program to more than 80 Greene County sites.
The grants are funded by the Library Services & Technology Act, through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
"Strong local libraries provide citizens with access to vast new resources and information right in their own communities," Carnahan said in a news release. "I'm pleased that this federal grant funding will help support the Springfield-Greene County Library District and provide library patrons even better services and programs."
