The Missouri Department of Revenue awarded two local license offices late last week to two different organizations.
Missouri DOR awarded the Glenstone License Office in Springfield to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. The nonprofit agreed to return 10 percent of revenue, an estimated $42,177, to the state.
The Glenstone license office is the first to be managed by BCFO. BCFO Executive Director Crystal Webster said the organization liked the idea of being able to create a sustainable revenue stream at a time when donations from the community are down.
"Our board liked the idea that the organization can provide a service to the community and earn revenue to support families with breast cancer," she said.
She noted that current employees will be interviewed with the possibility of retaining their current jobs.
"It's not our intention to displace anyone in the work force," Webster said. "They are trained and have state clearances, so there's a certain amount of wisdom, I think, in staying the course."
Alternative Opportunities Inc. was awarded the license office in Ozark. The organization's bid included returning 6 percent of revenues, estimated at $13,140, to the state.
With the Ozark award, AO now operates four license offices, including those in Nixa, Carthage and Farmington. The organization was previously awarded 10 license offices, but those offices were put up for rebid when it was determined that Tom Goss, the company's CFO and the listed contract manager on the bids, is not paid by AO but by Tucson, Ariz.-based WD Management. Bidders are not allowed to use subcontractors to provide main services in the license offices.
