Askinosie extends partnership with Intelligentsia

Posted online
Extending a nearly four-year relationship with Chicago-based Intelligentsia Coffee, Springfield-based bean-to-bar chocolate manufacturer Asknosie Chocolate has sealed an agreement to be the exclusive chocolate producer for the coffeehouse chain’s mochas and hot chocolates.

Askinosie has created a 60.5 percent dark chocolate blend for Intelligentsia to mix a ganache into customers’ beverages across the company’s 12 locations in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

Askinosie Chocolate founder and CEO Shawn Askinosie said in a news release he’s been a longtime admirer of the chain’s direct-trade practices and focus on quality and is pleased to extend the companies’ relationship. Nearly four years ago, Intelligentsia began exclusively selling Askinosie Chocolate bars. In fall 2011, the companies started working together via the manufacturer’s CollaBARation line, resulting in their Dark Chocolate + Coffee Bar that is sold at the retail level internationally.

“Being the only chocolate sold in its shops was and is still exciting for us, but the fact that it’s now using our chocolate exclusively to make its mochas and hot chocolates is an honor,” Askinosie said in the release.

Former criminal trial lawyer Shawn Askinosie opened his company at 514 E. Commercial St. and sold its first chocolate bar in 2007.

The founder and his company have since been featured in national publications such as O, Oprah Winfrey’s magazine, and The Huffington Post for its direct-trade and international educational efforts through Chocolate University.[[In-content Ad]]
