From their portfolio to their approach, it’s easy to tell that there is something different about Insight Design Architects (IDeA). Creating the spaces where we live, work, worship, and play, IDeA was born out of the recession that devastated the local construction economy in 2010 by partners Nathan Rapp and Eric Albers. Driven to provide design excellence, IDeA is a community and client-centered company that works on a wide-range of projects ranging from multi-million dollar retail developments to residential remodels.

Bringing a desire to consciously create spaces that can have a positive impact on the community, IDeA has quickly become known for over 3 million square feet of work in the retail sector, and routinely handles complex projects like the Memphis Pyramid and Retail Prototype for Bass Pro Shops and Hobby Lobby. However, their expertise goes far beyond retail, as the firm has a wide range of experience in the religious, restaurant, residential, commercial, entertainment, and educational arenas.

“Variety is the spice of life and our strength lies in our ability to personally relate to each project that comes through our doors,” Albers said. “Our principals stay involved throughout the management and design process. Our names and reputation are on the line for each project, and that is a responsibility we take seriously.”

The IDeA team enjoys a problem solving approach. Rather than churn out identical concrete boxes, the team looks at each project as an opportunity to provide a unique design solution. Regardless of the size of the project, IDeA treats each client with the same level of honesty, integrity, and energy, and communicates with owners, contractors, craftsmen, code officials, and everyone in between, making the process enjoyable from design through construction.

“We understand that clients have different likes, tastes, and preferences and it is our job to learn them so we can create a space that is meaningful to it’s inhabitants, the place it is located within, and the time it is built,” Rapp said. “We listen and learn our client’s objectives, and try to meet them in a brilliant way.”

IDeA has experienced steady growth since inception, and the past year especially has provided an opportunity for the firm to compete on projects that prove what they are capable of. With LEED Certified architects on staff, NCARB accreditation, and registration in over 10 states, Albers, Rapp and their team remain consistent in their delivery of efficient, timely, and cost effective building practices.

“Our ideal client is not afraid to question the status quo,” Rapp added. “We are firm believers that architecture is a social practice and has implications on how people experience their lives. We want to do good in the community, and work with clients that also feel that way.”
