Steel fab shop plans $5M capital investment

Posted online
A Nixa stainless steel fabrication shop is moving to Republic with plans to double its workforce through a $4.8 million capital investment.

Watson Metal Masters Inc. has purchased 11 acres in the Brookline Business Park to build a 70,000-square-foot building for production of stainless steel tanks and pressure vessels, according to a brief sent this morning to Springfield Business Development Corp. investors. The company plans to create 77 jobs in the move from 864 W. Enterprise Lane in Nixa, where it currently employs 45.

Under the development plan, Watson Metal was approved for local and state incentives by Republic and through the Missouri Works program. With the new jobs, the company has agreed to pay above Greene County’s average wage of $36,398, according to the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Founded by Rex Watson in 1995, the company’s roots date back to the mid-1980s when it started as a custom job shop. A year ago, Bill Schahuber purchased Watson Metal, and he serves as president. Schahuber was not available for comment by deadline this morning.

The SBDC said Rich Kramer Construction has been selected as general contractor for the project, which is underway.[[In-content Ad]]
