Banking
Old Missouri Bank promoted Ryan Uzzell to vice president of information technology.  Uzzell has 10 years of experience with the bank, working most recently as assistant vice president and information technology officer. He holds a bachelor’s in computer information systems from Missouri State University and completed the Bank Technology Management program through the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

Education
MSU hired Lori Winters Fan as executive director of alumni relations. Fan, who succeeds Julie Ebersold, worked most recently as Bradley University’s alumni relations program director.

Tamara Arthaud, Paul Ajuwon and Ian Shadrick, professors of counseling, leadership and special education at MSU, received a renewed grant award of $100,000 from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for visual impairment/orientation and mobility tuition. The grant supports tuition funds for course work leading to certification as a K–12 teacher of the visually impaired and/or licensure as an orientation and mobility specialist.

Emmett Sawyer, MSU faculty member in the department of counseling, leadership and special education, received a $73,730 DESE grant for the Southwest Regional Professional Development Center’s migrant summer school.

Government
Missouri State Sen. Jay Wasson, R-Nixa, received the 2013 Legislator of the Year Award at the Annual Missouri Ambulance Association Conference. Wasson was recognized for his work benefiting the emergency medical services industry.

The Springfield-Greene County Library board of rustees elected its annual officers: President Kenton DeVries of Guaranty Bank; Vice President James Jeffries of Lathrop & Gage LLP; Secretary Kim Kollmeyer of Kollmeyer & Co.; and Treasurer Cheryl Griffeth of Killian Construction Co. Three new members also were appointed to the board: Andrea McKinney of Central Trust & Investment Co.; Steven Ehase of Edward Jones; and Michelle Nahon Moulder, a federal public defender.

The Springfield Police Department promoted Capt. Jim McCulloch to the rank of major, Lt. Greg Higdon to the rank of captain and Cpl. Eric Wahlquist to the rank of sergeant. Also, civilian employee Tracy Mills was promoted to investigative services specialist supervisor.

Health Care
CoxHealth was recognized as a most improved hospital in the 2013 Most Wired Survey by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The survey, conducted with the American Hospital Association, measures information technology tools used to improve patient care. The honor recognizes CoxHealth’s improvements in patient documentation, clinical decision support and evidence-based protocols, emergency data restoration and the likelihood of medication errors.

CoxHealth received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its knee and hip replacement programs. During an on-site review, the commission evaluated the hospital’s compliance with national care standards, including infection prevention, leadership and medication management.

GYN Cancers Alliance named its 2013–14 board officers: Nancy Cathey, president; Mary Burmeister, president-elect; Kim Lorenzen, secretary; and Jason Jordan, treasurer. Also elected were new board members Randy Hopper, of Carthage, and Dr. Mike Kidder, of Springfield.

Hospitality
The Hiltons of Branson named Jay Campbell general manager of the Branson Convention Center, Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel and Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing. With 30 years of industry experience, Campbell previously worked as general manager of the Radisson Branson Hotel. He succeeds Bill Derbins, who took the general manager post of the Chase Park Plaza hotel in downtown St. Louis.

Nonprofit
Champions Committed to Kids added board members Matt Growcock, Eric Olson and Kasey White. Growcock is an attorney for Lowther Johnson Attorneys at Law LLC and the city attorney for Fremont Hills; Olson is editorial director for SBJ Publishing Inc.; and White is a supporter of the organization as a parent of a participant.

The Arc of the Ozarks’ Employment Solutions program recognized three area businesses for their support of individuals with disabilities in the workplace. The Arc named Infiniti of Springfield the Springfield Employer of the Year and the VFW Post 4207 the Monett Employer of the Year. Chartwells-Garst Dining Hall at MSU was chosen as Partner of the Year.

Springfield Ballet elected five new members to its 2013–14 board of directors: Melissa Bade of Neale & Newman LLP; Brian Hom, a marketing and communications freelancer; Bill Squires of SMC Electric Supply; Ann Vincel of Springfield Public Schools; and Christina Wiksell of One Door.

Springfield Ballet created an associate director position and named Frances Elkins to the post. Elkins, who holds a bachelor’s in musical theater performance and dance history from the University of Greenwich in London, is working to grow the ballet’s community outreach programs and collaborative efforts.

Mercy Clinic’s Force for Good grant program awarded $85,000 to three Springfield nonprofits: The Rare Breed, $60,000; Springfield Council of PTAs Clothing Bank, $13,000; and Isabel’s House, $12,000. The grants are issued twice a year.

The Rotaract Club of Springfield presented $12,300 to Great Circle’s Boys & Girls Town of Missouri campus in Springfield. The funds are dedicated to items the children normally wouldn’t have access to such as new tennis shoes, cribs, prom dresses and Halloween costumes.[[In-content Ad]]
