The Springfield metropolitan statistical area's real gross domestic product ranked No. 128 in 2011 among the 366 metro areas tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The most recent data from the BEA – released Friday – shows the real GDP in the Springfield MSA increased 1.5 percent to $13.4 billion, compared to $13.2 billion in 2010. According to a news release, the 2011 rankings are early statistics that could be revised upon release of complete data in September.
Of the 366 metro areas tracked, 242 showed increases in real GDP. The average for all metro areas increased 1.6 percent in 2011 after rising 3.1 percent in 2010, the release said.
GDP by metropolitan area is an inflation-adjusted measure of each area’s gross product based on national prices for the goods and services produced.
