Grove Spa
Grove Pharmacy on Dec. 10 opened the Grove Spa at University Plaza Hotel. The 1,100-square-foot spa on the main floor of the John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts-owned hotel, 333 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway, includes three massage/skin care rooms, four pedicure stations and three manicure stations, said Robert Henley, general manager of University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center. Henley said the space previously housed half of a boardroom and a hair salon. Grove Spa is leasing the space from the hotel for an undisclosed amount. Grove Spa Director Haden Long said Oak Grove Construction served as general contractor for the project, with design work by Jeff Barber. Grove Pharmacy owner Gary Grove opened the first spa, within the 1522 E. Sunshine St. store, in 1995. Hours: 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 831-0880. U.S. Cellular
Chicago-based wireless carrier U.S. Cellular Corp. (NYSE: USM) opened its first Springfield store Nov. 19 at 3825 S. Glenstone Ave. in James River Towne Center. The company has offered cell service in the market for five years and prior to the retail launch had 250 accounts, each representing one to six lines on the local network, said Jason Buntin, manager of U.S. Cellular’s corporate stores in Springfield and Branson. Buntin transferred from Joplin to open the Springfield store. At 3,000 square feet, the store is the wireless carrier’s largest among its 76 Missouri stores, and Buntin said it carries phone devices, tablets, wireless modems for homes and businesses and wireless accessories by Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG and Pantech. U.S. Cellular currently employs eight in Springfield, including retail wireless consultants, a sales manager and technician and engineering professionals, who work out of a north Springfield office. The company’s long-term plans call for up to 25 Springfield employees. U.S. Cellular bills itself as the country’s seventh-largest wireless carrier and operates more than 800 Missouri cell sites, including two recent additions in Springfield and Sparta. Hours: 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Saturday and noon–5 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 883-5427. Web: USCellular.com

Great Southern Bank
After a summer property acquisition of a vacant bank building, Great Southern Bank (Nasdaq: GSBC) on Oct. 1 relocated a south Springfield branch to 600 W. Republic Road. The 5,900-square-foot building – occupied by Bank Midwest until its closure two years ago – replaces Great Southern’s 3961 S. Campbell Ave. branch, which bank officials have said was among the Top 10 busiest in the system of more than 100 banking centers. The larger branch offers a full-service lobby, safe-deposit boxes, a teller line, drive-thru lanes and a drive-up ATM. Banking Center Manager Debra Yeager leads a team of eight associates at the Parkcrest branch. As of Sept. 30, Great Southern held $1.24 billion in local deposits and $4.06 billion in holding company assets. Hours: 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday in the lobby; 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday in the drive-thru. Phone: (417) 888-5880.
