Mission Statement:

Harmony House’s mission is to provide shelter, advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence while promoting the principle that all individuals have a right to a life free from abuse. 
The mission is supported by four goals: 

1) To provide short-term emergency protective shelter for survivors of domestic violence; 

2) To help survivors break the cycle of abuse through programs of education, support and advocacy; 

3) To inform and educate the community about the factors involved in domestic violence, incidence rates, causes, patterns and prevention; and 

4) To advocate for changes that will provide the opportunity for a lifestyle free of domestic violence for all people.

Service Area:

Harmony House’s primary service area is Springfield/Greene County and the counties comprising Southwest Missouri.  We serve clients from other areas and states as needed.

 

Funding:

Private donations, non-cash contributions, government grants, private grant, municipal fees, United Way, fundraising events and other sources.

12-month Goals: 

1) Expand our Dating Violence Awareness Campaign; 

2) Provide additional outreach and support services to the 1,500 women and children that were turned away from shelter due to space limitations; 

3) Increased collaboration with area agencies to provide additional education and support to women in shelter; 

4) Capital Campaign initiative for increasing the shelter and transitional housing capacity.

Annual Events:

Night of Unity awareness event in October; Stop the Violence Conference presented by the Domestic Violence Task Force; Rock’n Ribs sponsored by Springfield Rotary Clubs for which Harmony House is a charity designated to receive proceeds.

How People & Businesses Can Help:

Donations of cash, debit/credit card, appreciated stock, real estate, deferred giving and other are essential to supporting Harmony House.  Donations over $100 may be eligible for a 50% Missouri Tax Credit. In-kind donations of new or gently used clothing, furniture, new personal care items and toys are always needed to assist residents. Building maintenance items are needed as well.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Harmony House relies on the generosity of volunteers who donate their time for help in a  variety of areas. Volunteers are needed to help receive and sort donations, office work, handyman and maintenance, special events and more.  We welcome volunteers to meet with our Volunteer Coordinator to find the best experience for their skills and interests.
