Project Description: This structure on a bluff overlooking Table Rock Lake Dam will replace the 1975-built Dewey Short Visitors Center. The educational facility will feature a natural rock exterior, an observation deck and windows for an unobstructed view of the water and dam, said architect Mike Hughes, whose Tulsa-based firm won an award for the center’s design. Hughes said the center is designed to meet Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design-Gold standards, with heating and cooling dependent on the lake, maximized natural lighting and bioswales to naturally filter runoff. Funding for the project was made available through federal stimulus funds, he said.
