Game Changers: John Twitty

Posted online
Former Springfield City Utilities General Manager John Twitty retired from the post he’d held since 2002 on June 10. During his time as the leader of CU, Twitty managed the construction of the $697 million Southwest II power plant, negotiated new union agreements, handled the crisis of the 2007 ice storm, revised nonunion salary and benefits plans, and secured a long-term power supply agreement. He began his career in the utilities industry in 1983 in Rolla before joining CU as director of consumer affairs in 1991. Following his June retirement, Twitty was selected as the first executive director of Madison, Wis.-based electric utility and transmission advocacy organization Transmission Access Policy Study Group. He works in Springfield serving member utilities in 33 states.
